Why don’t we care enough to stop genocide in Darfur?
Why do we condone an unjust war—
the death of so many innocent souls?
Why do we sit idly by while the cabal in the White House
sows the seeds of death and destruction
with arrogant indifference to the poor
suffering victims of American aggression?

Why don’t we, the children of Ghandi, Mandela, Martin,
Cesar and Rosa
stand up to stop the malevolent machine?

Stop the lies!

Stop the torture!

Stop the spying!

Stop the War!

about his life in prison now that he is 21 and born again
he wants to make it on the outside where the cards are stacked
against him because he is “institutionalized”

“Late one night in my cell a lifer named Bobby said, ‘Look it homey
you don’t want to end up like me, I’m a grade A gutter hype
a real bottom feeder’”

Bobby’s words may be the spark of hope that sets a fire
in the heart of a boy behind bars since the age of 12
to flame away the walls of indifference and despair
