i am well into this odd odyssey
some call la vida loca
remembering when we were
organizing against and defeating
Jim Crow and an unjust war

Now as the sun hovers on the horizon
Martin’s dream is coming true—
we have a black president
in the White House
built by black slaves

But
by waging another unwinable war
in faraway tribal homelands
is he betraying Martin’s Dream
of the Beloved Community

By bailing out the captains of high finance
as their ship sinks in a sea of IOUS
toxic assets and Ponzi schemes
Will Obama
Can Obama
defeat the forces of Corporate greed
deceit and corruption?
And if he does
can he dodge the assassins bullet?
